My Grandma

Today would have been my Grandma's 86th birthday. She died in 2002. I miss her daily- since so many things in my everyday life remind me of her. She taught me how to bake cookies, how to make doll clothes, how to use correct grammar (she was a teacher) , how to plant flowers, how to love and respect nature- and also, that there are people who are good and kind in the world and that I was one of them. She read to me every night that I spent with her without fail. She carried me up the stairs when I fell asleep until I was 9 years old- at which time I was nearly as big as she was. I have so many fond memories of her and the time I spent with her and my Grandpa- that I find myself seeking out little trinkets that remind me of those times- decorations, books, jewelry, perfume...I think that's ok. I dream about her frequently. I dream about the house that they lived in. She may be the reason I am a photographer. She always had a camera- and took so many photos of me and my cousins- I realized today while sifting through them, that there are only a few that she and I are in together. That makes me a little sad. But I couldn't be more thankful that she cared enough and made the effort to capture my childhood for me. I found this photo of us together in 1987- I was 12 and already mostly the same size as she was. What a wonderful woman she was. I feel very fortunate that I got to be her granddaughter.
Happy Birthday Grandma!

What a wonderful and thoughtful tribute. She would be honored I'm sure.

I can't believe how light your hair was... ;-)

I loved that lady. She was one of the most gentle souls I ever met! It is a great picture. Aren't you so happy you have it? I don't know if I have any pictures of me and my grandma together....
